AI policy

Last updated: 2026-10-14

AI can help with practice and feedback, but a teacher or learner must check its output. Do not include names, student identifiers, contact details or sensitive records in an AI request. Student tools should guide learning rather than ghost-write assessed work.

School AI controls

External AI on new school installations is disabled until a named provider, region and no-training/retention terms are configured and verified. Legacy products have their own policies; consult the service register and the school before using them with student content.

Maths for Schools pilot

Maths AI features are optional and disabled by default. When enabled by the school, hints use questions and prompts to guide thinking and never provide the final answer. AI-assisted marking of working steps is a suggestion with a reason; a teacher confirms the mark.

AI-drafted questions stay as drafts and require approval by a person before students can see them. The existing imported Creative Commons collection is available for practice while quality review continues. Source credits, licence links and modification notices are preserved. Review queues, corrections, version history, issue reporting and withdrawal of questions with identified problems remain part of quality control. Availability does not mean that every question has been teacher approved.

Only the question, the student’s working and the topic are sent through the AI gateway, with names and IDs removed. Student content is not logged by default. School settings determine data retention.

The maths school edition uses no camera, face analysis, biometric data or emotion recognition. Optional mood taps are chosen by the student and can be disabled by the school.
